2-?Amino-?6-?chloro-?4-?pyrimidinol is used to prepare O- and N-phosphonomethoxyalkyl pyrimidines with antiviral activities. It is also used to synthesize (±)?-?9-?[[(Z)?-?2-?(hydroxymethyl)?cyclopropyl]?methyl]?guanine with antiherpetic activities.
