Benzanthrone is a polycyclic aromatic ketone that is a commonly used dye intermediate, utilized in industry for the mass colouration of polymers. As a result of industrial processes, benzanthrone is released as waste and also appears in soils and waters as an environmental contaminant. Benzanthrone is also known to cause hepatic problems and dermal lesions in humans.
