Dimethyl (2-Oxopropyl)phosphonate is a common chemical reagent used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. Used in the synthesis of phenyl-substituted prostaglandins used as selective antiglaucoma agents. Also used in the synthesis of dipeptidyl enoates as potent rhodesain inhibitors. Rhodesain is the cysteine protease of Trypanosoma brucei parasites which cause African sleeping sickness.
