4-Methyl-2-oxovaleric Acid is an a-ketomonocarboxylic acid that triggers insulin release by acting upon receptor sites which differ from those occupied by amino acids. 4-Methyl-2-oxovaleric Acid is an intermediate in the metabolism of Leucine.
