描述

Desmosterol 是 Bloch 途徑中膽固醇的前體，酶 24-脫氫膽固醇還原酶催化這一步驟。去甾醇在 24-脫氫膽固醇還原酶受損期間積累，從而導致去甾醇中毒。 Desmosterol 是一種肝 X 受體 (LXR) 激動劑。它是治療神經退行性疾病的潛在治療靶點。地甾醇調節巨噬細胞中的炎癥信號。
